“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” Mahatma Gandhi
We have all heard the cliche’, “Mans best friends” when referring to dogs and it is certainly true that dogs are loyal. We cherish our friendship with dogs, cats, horses, and many other animals that we love.
If you have ever watched an ASPCA commercial asking for monthly donations to help save animals, you probably got a lump in your throat watching the current treatment of many animals across this country. The fact is, all of these animals are, or at one point were the pets of their abusers. It is difficult to watch the many commercials and news reports of animal abuse and not notice the diminishing treatment of our pets.
How Great is America
If you believe Gandhi when he said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”, then you would at least have to be curious if the state of Americas moral progress declining. It is possible animal treatment has not actually become worse, only the progress of news and social media and the speed of reporting tragedy has increased, creating an illusion of increased abuse.
Have you personally been touched by animal abuse in some way and if so, how did it effect you/
